LEARN / QWAC ESSENTIALS

Questions, answered.

The practical details of bringing qualified identity to your website.

What the heck is a QWAC?

A Qualified Website Authentication Certificate is a verified business ID for your website. A government-supervised qualified trust service provider checks your organization and issues a certificate browsers can verify.

How is this different from the SSL lock?

Basic SSL secures the connection and confirms control of a domain. A QWAC adds verified identity for the business operating the website, so people and agents can check who they are dealing with.

What is the difference between QWAC and EV?

OV adds organization checks to SSL. EV adds extended business checks. QWAC provides identity under the EU’s qualified trust framework, issued by a qualified provider on an official trusted list.

How can QWAC support SEO and AEO?

It gives your content a verifiable organization behind it. Signed identity evidence complements accurate business information, structured data, and useful answers as part of your discoverability strategy.

Can browsers read QWACs?

Chrome, Firefox, and Safari support QWAC verification in 2026. Modern headless Chrome shares Chrome’s browser capabilities, providing the same foundation for automated browsing.

What does QWAC.com do?

We help connect your certificate issuer and hosting provider, manage deployment, coordinate renewals, and keep your website identity current.

Who issues my certificate?

Your qualified trust service provider checks your business and issues the certificate. QWAC.com handles the deployment and lifecycle integration.

Can identity be separate from SSL?

Yes. QWACs can be deployed alongside an existing SSL certificate, separating identity from connection security. They can also combine both in a single certificate.

Where are my private keys?

For managed key hosting, TLS keys are envelope-encrypted with AWS KMS and decrypted in memory for deployment to your host. You can also keep your own key, supply a CSR, and install your issued certificate directly with your hosting provider.

What hosting can I use?

Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, and AWS CloudFront, plus Cloudflare O2O partners including BigCommerce, HubSpot, Kinsta, Render, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Shopify, Webflow, and WP Engine. Each guide explains its setup and plan requirements.
